The Voice 2012 kicked off for the second time this year (even though the judges kept referring to “last year”) when the third season debuted Monday night.

The Blind Auditions are just like last season, only this year we get more of them and the coaches — Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton — will all start with larger teams this time around.

The Standouts

Terry McDermott. This Scottish rocker had the old school rocker look and sound. His voice was crystal clear and all the coaches but Christina hit their buttons. I think this guy has a great sound did wonders with his version of “Baba O’Riley.” and should go far in the contest. He decided to join reigning coach champ Blake.

De’Borah. I’m not sure how I feel about her. I like how unique she is, but I think she tried too hard to be different. Or maybe I was just annoyed that she reminded me of Steve Urkel. It doesn’t matter what I think though because she’s now on Christina’s Team.

Gracia Harrison. Finally a country singer that won’t annoy the pants off me like last season. I really liked her twang and then when she broke into the yodel it was over. All the guys pushed their buttons but she made the wise move and joined Team Blake.

Bryan Keith. This guy’s version of “It Will Rain” could be on the radio right now. He’s ready to go. And all the coaches agreed. They all wanted him on their team but he went with Adam.

Daniel Rosa. Daniel made the list of standouts last season, but none of the coaches turned around. This time he did his own little version of “Somebody That I Used To Know” and Blake and Cee Lo heard something this time they didn’t last. He joins Team Cee Lo.

Joe Kirkland. This guy arguably already had a shot when he toured internationally with the band Artist vs. Poet, but when the label dropped the band, he had to start over. I’d normally be irritated that a guy like that was on a singing show, but I liked this guy a lot, so I’ll let it slide. He was one of my favorites of the night. Luckily Adam and Blake wanted to give him a shot. He chose to join Adam’s team.

Trevin Hunt. I’m kind of over people singing “Listen” by Beyonce on singing shows, but this was the first time I’ve heard a guy do it, so that was cool. I kind of thought he was just another one of those voices you hear all the time. I think Adam might have agreed with my thoughts, but the other three coaches loved him. So he’s in. And it was deserving. He goes for Team Cee Lo.

The Should’ve Beens

Garrett Gardner. This young guy had such heart and a great look. I wish they would’ve considered turning around for him. Luckily he’s young and will hopefully get another shot.

Anita Antoinette. I understand why she didn’t get picked but when she asked them to sing again just for the heck of it, I don’t think I’m the only one who wishes she had done that version of “No Woman, No Cry” the first time around. Things would have played out differently for her.
