The Voice 2012 Erin Willett and Gwen Sebastian

We’re approaching the home stretch with The Voice 2012 Battle Rounds as a new batch of singers were added to The Voice live show roster tonight.

Kicking off the night was Team Adam. He put Pip up against Nathan Parrett singing Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good.”

Pip vs. Nathan:  Both singers had a very strong performance. Pip started the song off great. He’s got a great tone and a fun style. Nathan is equally good. It was kind of an unfortunate pairing because both deserve to be on the show still. I think they were both standouts, but I might prefer Pip’s voice just a bit more than Nathan’s.

My Pick: Pip

Adam’s Pick: Pip

Up first for Team Cee Lo was Erin Martin and The Shields Brothers singing “What’s Love Got to Do With It.”

Erin vs. The Shields Brothers: I’m about to make a bold statement. It’s one I normally don’t make. If I don’t like the way someone sings, I’ll normally dodge harsh language. But I can’t this time. I’m just going to say it. I HATE Erin Martin’s voice. I think it’s fake, gimmicky and forced. I understand the big thing right now is sounding unique. It works for some people, but not everyone. And her attitude comes off as ugly as her fake voice. That being said, The Shields Brothers aren’t the best singers, but I’d prefer them over the “former model” Erin who just can’t seem to stand not being in the spotlight. At least Ne-Yo picked up on her phoniness during their mentor session.

My Pick: The Shields Brothers

Cee Lo’s Pick: Erin (typical)

Team Christina’s first battle was between Ashley De La Rosa and Jonathas. Christina gave them the song “No Air” to battle it out over.

Ashley vs. Jonathas: This was an interesting battle. I feel like both are good singers but both had to deal with some nerves. Ashely was flat a lot and Jonathas just seemed to kind of phone it in. He never really got off the ground with his vocals. It just wasn’t a good battle at all. I think I’d go with the person who at least treated it like a battle.

My Pick: Ashley

Christina’s Pick: Ashley

First to battle from Team Blake Alyx and Jermaine Paul singing Billy Ocean’s “Get Out of My Dreams (And Get into My Car).”

Alyx vs. Jermaine: At first I was like “whaaaaat? This song!?” But once it started I realized this might actually be the best this song has ever sounded. Both singers did their own thing and really made it work. Jermaine had a moment where he kind of lost control, but he still outshined Alyx easily.

My Pick: Jermaine

Blake’s Pick: Jermaine

Next up for Team Adam was early favorites Angel Taylor and Katrina Parker. Adam tasked them with Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love.”

Angel vs. Katrina: I don’t want to be mean again, but I’d say boot them both. I thought this battle was terrible. Anything that happened in the start of the battle was ALL lost with that HORRIBLE ending. Bad. Bad. Bad. But if I had to pick someone, I’d go with the person who wasn’t a mess all the way through.

My Pick: Katrina

Adam’s Pick: Katrina

Closing out the night from Team Blake was Erin Willett and Gwen Sebastian doing Pat Benatar’s “We Belong.”

Erin vs. Gwen: Kudos to Blake for picking the best song of the night. And more kudos to the singers for doing it justice. Those two singers are SO different it’s actually unfair to compare them. Erin was great for her style and Gwen was great for her style. I wish they weren’t up against each other because they both probably deserve to move on. It just has to come down to personal preference this time, I guess.

My Pick: Erin

Blake’s Pick: Erin

Aside from Cee Lo picking Erin Martin, I agree with the judges more this week than I have the others. I think they made the right decisions based only on the performance at hand and that’s just the way it should be.

What did you think? Who did you love or not love?
