As The Voice 2012 Battle Rounds play out, we’re seeing the contestants that will sing during the The Voice live rounds. So it’s time to get to know them better. From Team Adam, we’ve got Kim Yarbrough’s Q&A here and she’s quite detailed, so enjoy.

1) If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?

If I could travel anywhere in the world right now, I would go to my birthplace of Memphis, Tennessee. There I would visit the house I grew up in, my old apartment, my high school, and all my old favorite places. I would go alone, so I could quietly reflect on where I came from and where I’m going from here. It would give me a chance to slow down, gather/ground myself and get some peace and PERSPECTIVE before things get crazy for 2012!\

2) Who is your celebrity crush?

I have a huge celebrity crush on Justin Timberlake! I had a tiny crush on him when he was with “N Sync”. I found out that we were both born in Memphis, and my crush got bigger. (I guess it was thrilling for me, knowing I had something in common with such a talent. lol)
When he became a solo act, I loved the fact that he stepped into his star shoes so easily and ran with it. I wasn’t surprised– just amazed. In the last few years, my opinion of him has gone from fan to fanatic! lol I have enjoyed watching him make a very defined career transition from singer/songwriter/pop star to Leading Man. He displayed such fantastic acting chops in “The Social Network”, I had trouble closing my mouth each time he appeared in a scene! I kept thinking, “This is not Justin Timberlake on this screen.” I was blown away and completely taken with him all over again as an actor. I was also mad that he didn’t get more recognition for that role.

Justin has always been a natural on screen, but selling the heck out of a song in a music video and carrying a major role in a feature film are two completely different animals. Now he’s Hollywood’s newest “Action Film Star”. Who would’a thunk it? I’m a JT fan for life!

3) What song is currently your guilty pleasure?

My current guilty pleasure is “Shy Guy” by Diana King. It was a big radio hit in the mid-to-late nineties, and was featured in the original movie “Bad Boys” with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. It’s over fifteen years old, but I keep playing it again and again these days because it makes me happy and reminds me of how much I LOVE Diana King’s voice! I also love songs with a funky rhythm, and this is one of my all time favorites. The only way to describe it is ‘Reggae Fusion’, because it combines a Reggae feel with a killer AWB “School Boy Crush” sample. It has recently resurfaced on my iPod in my ‘Top 25 Most Played’ folder.

4) Who would play you in a movie?

Raven Symone would be my choice to play me in a movie. People always say that we look alike. Some people tell me I should play her mother, older sister, or some other relative on a TV show.

Her sass, spunk, and ‘go-getter’ nature reminds me a lot of myself. I also love the fact that she is a beautiful young businesswoman heading up a multi-million dollar company, with her eye on even bigger prizes and greater projects. With all that, she’s still a nice girl with her head on straight!

I hope that people would say the same about me.

5) What’s your favorite song from your coach?

My favorite Maroon 5 Song used to be “This Love”. As a matter of fact, I love every tune on the “Songs About Jane” album. It’s a great album, end of story. But let’s be real . . . Maroon 5 is an excellent band that hasn’t won all those awards and honors for nothing, and Adam’s voice is so distinctive and unusual, it’s unmistakable. There’s no one that sounds quite like him. He could sing the Greek Alphabet and I would love it.

But “This Love” has been permanently replaced by “Moves Like Jagger”. It runs in my head 25/8. Don’t let me hear a promo for “The Voice” with it playing in the background– I immediately hit the floor dancing. Talk about a catchy beat! Even when I hear a beat that remotely sounds like it, forget it–the internal trigger is off and running for the day.

I felt better when my friend Ramon told me he loved it as much as I do and plays it to death. If I played it as much as I would like in public, my friends would think I’m completely batty (not just kinda batty), so I play it alone at home, and dance around by myself. It drives me wild!

One day I was downtown shopping and it came on over the store speakers. I started dancing right in the store. The lady standing in front of me in line was quite amused . . . I can’t help it. I hear that familiar little whistle at the beginning, the beat kicks in, and it’s like I’m under some kind of spell. I LOVE IT!!!

6) What was your first concert ever?

My very first concert was in 1970 when I was nine. My Mom took me to see The Jackson 5 at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis. I was so excited when 10-year-old Michael came out in that purple fedora and started singing, I screamed my head off, grabbed my Mom, and almost pulled her wig off! I was smitten and have been in love ever since.

7) Tattoos?

I feel kinda out of the loop in the body art department because I don’t have any tattoos. I’m scared.

I see really cool ones on so many of my friends and want to get one, but I’m still pondering, trying to decide. So I never end up in the tattoo parlor. I only end up back at the same questions: “Where would I get it?” “What would I get?” “Where would it hurt the least?” lol Or maybe it’s just the old tapes of my Grandmother yelling at me, “Why would you want to mark up your body like that?!” lol Baby steps. Baby steps.

8) My last text message says:

My last text message says, “The Voice? What are you talking about? What Voice?”

9) People would be surprised to learn that I have ____ on my iPod.

People would be surprised to learn that I have the original cast recording from the Broadway Musical, “Carousel” on my iPod. LOLOL!
