The Voice 2012: Top 12 Week

the-voice-top-12-dez-trevin

Last week, The Voice 2012 Top 12 was announced after America’s votes and the coaches’ decisions were revealed. Tonight, the Top 12 again sings for your votes.

This time around, it’s your votes that will decide which of the two people will be going home on Tuesday night during the live results show.

In the final live performance phase of the competition, the top artists from each team will compete each week against each other during a live broadcast. The television audience will vote to save their favorite artists and the two artists with the lowest number of votes will be sent home each week, no matter what team they are on. In the end, one will be named “The Voice” and will receive the grand prize of a recording contract. — NBC

The Top 12 — Team Adam: Amanda Brown, Bryan Keith and Melanie Martinez; Team Blake: Cassadee Pope, Michaela Paige and Terry McDermott; Team Christina: Adriana Louise, Dez Duron and Sylvia Yacoub; and Team CeeLo: Cody Belew, Nicholas David and Trevin Hunte.

Be sure to check back in tonight for the live coverage of the performances and again later for a full recap of the The Voice 2012 Top 12 performances.

The Voice 2012 Top 12 Announced: Eight Contestants Cut

the-voice-2012-top-20

The Voice 2012 Top 20 became the Top 12 on Thursday night following two nights of Playoff Rounds. So the cuts have been made, and while there weren’t any real surprise cuts, there were some surprise voting results.

There were a couple of people who didn’t come in the Top 2 on their teams like most everyone expected. For the most part, the coaches made the expected saves.

Carson called up Team Adam for the results first.

  • Saved by America: Amanda Brown and Bryan Keith
  • Adam’s Save: Melanie Martinez
  • Eliminated: Loren Allred and Joselyn Rivera
No surprises here at all. I thought there could possibly be a chance that Adam would go with Loren over Melanie, but I was pretty sure Melanie would be safe. Her quirkiness will carry her a bit.

Team Blake is up next.

  • Saved by America: Terry McDermott  and Cassadee Pope
  • Blake’s Save: Michaela Paige
  • Eliminated: Julio Cesar Castillo and Liz Davis
I was actually surprised Liz Davis did not make the top 2 based on America’s votes since she’s the only country artist in the contest. And then I was surprised Blake didn’t save her. This was one of the bigger surprises of the night.

The Voice 2012 Playoffs Part Two: Teams Christina and Cee Lo Perform

the-voice-2012-playoffs-part-2

The Voice 2012 Playoffs continued Tuesday night and Teams Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green took to the stage to sing for America’s votes. There wasn’t a huge standout during Part Two like there was with Amanda Brown in Part One, but instead, a few really good performances.

Now that we’re into the individual performances, I’m reviewing each performance and assigning the letter grade that I think each performance deserved. Let’s get to it.

Adrian Louise, “Firework.” At first I thought it was better than Katy Perry’s version, but then the tempo got weird and the vocals weren’t really there. It was pretty disappointing. C-

Cody Belew, “One More Try.” Another flawless one from Cody. I think the should would’ve been a better one had Cody picked it himself like he did with last week’s “Jolene,” but the performance was great nonetheless. A+

De’Borah, “Who Knew.” This performance was all over the place. Literally. She was jumping and skipping and running all over the stage. And that really impacted her vocals. This was not her best performance. C+

The Voice 2012 Playoffs: Part 2 Airs Tonight

the-voice-2012-de-borah

The Voice 2012 Playoff Rounds return tonight after a break for Election Day and this time Teams Christina and Cee Lo take to the stage to sing for your votes.

Teams Adam and Blake did their thing on Monday, so it’s time for more voting before we get to Thursday’s results show. In case you missed the first night and need a refresher on what’s going on now, here you go:

During the pivotal week of “Playoffs,” each coach will have five artists on their respective teams, who will perform over the live shows during a three-night event on Monday, November 5 (8-10 p.m. ET) and Wednesday, November 7 (8-10 p.m. ET) — culminating with a Results show on Thursday, November 8 (8-9 p.m. ET) that will reveal “The Voice’s” Top 12 artists.

After viewing this trial to see if they have what it takes, America then will choose two artists to be saved for each coach’s team — and the coach will be allowed to choose one final singer to round out each team of three artists – all to be revealed on the Playoff Results show on Thursday, November 8 (8-9 p.m. ET). The four coaches and their teams will move on to regular live shows during the remaining competition of “The Voice.” — NBC

Who are you rooting for on Teams Xtina and Cee Lo?

Be sure to check back later for a full recap of tonight’s episode of The Voice 2012.

The Voice 2012 Playoffs Part One: Teams Adam and Blake Compete

the-voice-playoffs-liz-davis

The Voice 2012 Playoffs began Monday night and Teams Adam and Blake took to the stage to sing for America’s vote. It was a mixed bag for most of the night and then Amanda Brown stepped on the stage and blew everyone and everything away.

Now that we’re into the individual performances, it’s time for me to start reviewing each performance and assigning the letter grade that I think each performance deserved.

Joselyn Rivera, “Give Your Heart A Break.” This was a pretty weak performance. She seemed to lack control in a number of places  and there weren’t any great moments to the performance. The judges must have heard something else though because they seemed to like her a lot more than I did. C-

Terry McDermott, “Don’t Stop Believing.” Terry is an effortless singer. His crystal-clear voice is inviting and easy to listen to. He handled this song with all that east minus a few parts where it felt like he was fighting the song. But that was like seriously only one and half times. Maybe less. This guy is a natural. A-

The Voice 2012: Live Playoffs Begin Tonight

the-voice-playoffs-cee-lo

The Voice is going live this week not once, not even twice, but three times. And this time you’re the judge! That’s right, the voting starts this week and by Thursday, the Top 20 will become the Top 12.

Tonight two coaches’ teams will start the playoffs and then on Wednesday, two more teams will take the stage live. And then on Thursday, we’ll learn who America voted into the Top 12. America gets to pick two acts from each team and then the coaches choose who will fill the final spot on their team of three.

The Voice 2012: Sizing Up The Top 20

the-voice-terry-mcdermott

Next week, The Voice 2012 Top 20 will become the Top 12 after the “Playoffs.”

In order to get to the Top 12, America’s votes will decide two members from each team and the coaches will decide the final person, leaving them all with teams of three.

So let’s take a look at the Top 20 and weigh in on who probably has what it takes to go on and who might not. And these are just my thoughts and who knows how they could change after Monday’s performances. Feel free to weigh in with yours.

Team Adam

  • Bryan Keith: Bryan has some star power to him. I’m not sure he’ll get America’s vote, but he has a good chance to pick up Adam’s
  • Loren Allred: After her last performance, I think Loren should be in the final 12, but I’m not sure America remembers just how good her last performance was. I don’t see Adam cutting her though if he doesn’t have to.
  • Melanie Martinez: She’s just quirky enough to get America to notice her. I think she’ll be safe.
  • Amanda Brown: As the best singer on Adam’s team, I think she’ll be safe. And if she’s not, then it’ll be a travesty.
  • Joselyn Rivera: I can’t even remember her performances as I’m writing this right now. She’s probably in danger.

The Voice 2012 Knockout Round Part 2 Recap: More Acts Axed

the-voice-knockout-rounds-part-2

The Voice 2012 Knockout Round concluded Tuesday night as Christina and Blake cut their teams in half. Monday night, Cee Lo and Adam did the same. We’ve got a lot to get through, so let’s get right to it.

Devyn Delora vs. Laura Vivas

Devyn, “I Have Nothing.”  First of all, this song has got to stop! Stop showing up on singing competition shows. OK, the song got off to  a slow start, and it finally picked up. But for the most part, the song was just kind of there. She’s a great singer, but she didn’t do anything to this over-done song to make it stand out.

Laura, “I Need To Know.” Laura’s presence is kind of off-putting. She’s a great singer, though, but I think this is one of those that just comes down to personal preference.

My Pick: Devyn. Christina’s Pick: Devyn

Adriana Louise vs. Celica Westbrook

Adriana, “Already Gone.” Her performance came off as weird, angry and whiney at times. It wasn’t a bad performance. She’s a great singer. It was just weird for me.

Celica, “Never Say Never.” What a boring and generic song. I was sure that Celica would have to just not sing in order to lose to Adriana, but I was wrong. This performance was some how worse. Not, bad, just really boring.

My Picl: Adriana. Christina’s Pick: Adriana.

The Voice 2012: Knockout Rounds Continue Tonight

Blake and Christina on The Voice 2012

Last night on The Voice 2012, Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green cut their teams of ten in half after Part 1 of the Knockout Rounds.

Adam and Cee Lo picked two members at a time to go head-to-head in the rounds and were forced to make a cut on the fly, only this time there were no steals. Tonight Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton will face the same dilemma. If you missed the first part of the Knockouts, below is a refresher of how it works.

During the Knockout Rounds on October 29-30 (8-10 p.m. ET both nights), the battle winners and coach steals will have to prove themselves worthy to get to the live Playoffs. They will compete head-to-head in a sudden death vocal matchup. At the start of the Knockouts, each coach had 10 artists left — eight battle winners and two steals.

The artists will have no clue who they are up against until they are about to perform. Coaches will line their teams up on the stage and call out two artists to go head-to-head immediately. This time the competitors will pick their own song, one which they feel symbolizes who they are as an artist. Each singer will then perform for all of the coaches, while their opposing teammate watches from a stool in the ring. The coach then decides who earns the live show spot and the other artist is eliminated. — NBC

Be sure to check back here later tonight for a full recap of The Voice 2012 and find out who the Top 20 are.
